แต่ถ้าจะแปลในบริบทศาสนาก็หมายถึงมุสลิมที่มีญาณเข้าใจการ 'Tasawwuf' อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ 

'นักบวชอิสลาม' มีรากฐานจากซูฟี การบวชอิสลามที่แท้จริงไม่ใช่เพียงการทำละศีลอด แต่ต้องรู้จักการ Tasawwuf และ 'Zuhd' (สละวัตถุภายนอก) บวกกับหมั่น 'Dhikr' (การระลึกถึงพระผู้เป็นเจ้า) 
และสามารถเข้าสู่ภาวะสงบบรรลุ 'Haqiqåt' (ความรู้เชื่อมโยงจากพระผู้เป็นเจ้า)

นักบวชอิสลามในภาษาอังกฤษคือ 'Islamic cleric' อิสลามมีนักบวชที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นผู้นำทางศาสนา เทศนา และตัดสินข้อเท็จจริงตามหลักกฎหมายอิสลาม 

ส่วนคนที่ไม่เข้าใจรากฐานการบวชอิสลาม บางคนอาจบอกว่าอิสลามไม่มีนักบวช ซึ่งเป็นความคิดที่ผิดเพราะไม่เข้าใจแก่นแท้ของการบวชอิสลามที่แท้จริง"
